Weather Craziness

If you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes!

Wow this March is exactly like that.

Today and everyday this week I have seen sunshine, driving rain, hail and sloppy snow.

It's interesting, but makes it hard to plan any outdoor activities.

I'm looking forward to a morning without scraping the windshield, and maybe even puttering in my garden again.

Not that I haven't eaten anything from the garden lately... I have served some swiss chard and found some tasty "weeds" growing conveniently in my garden plot called cress (peppery little greens that went beautifully with the tuna steaks I served a couple days ago).

Speaking of weeds, I see the nettles have just barely begun to come out of the ground.... I am thinking I may try them -- everyone says they are good. And I am waiting somewhat impatiently for the cattails to get green again -- crisp crunchy yumminess that they are.

Work is great right now. Lots and lots of it to do (YAY!)

The kids are in Spring Break with their busy social lives, and the big boy's FIFTEENTH birthday is fast approaching.

So much going on, so little time to share.

4 Decades

That's how long I've been breathing the good air of planet Earth... F-O-R-T-Y  Y-E-A-R-S!

Thirty didn't bug me, 30 meant I made it to adulthood with my goals and dreams intact. 30 meant I could be taken seriously in my career and as a consumer/investor.

This 40's thing isn't going over QUITE so sweetly. Now I have to be afraid of looking like the "has been" in my career. My skills may be mature but they may also be seen as out-dated. Now I'm not considered ahead of the game with investing -- quite the opposite, I have to be afraid of getting to the point where I need to catch up! The magic of compound interest over time is less effective now than it was when I started this last decade... it's scary!

But that's just the money part.

This decade I get to experience a whole other world of deteriorating body bits. I can expect to see my eyes tire, my hair grey, my fluids change viscosity, and I have now entered the decade that took so many of my family members in the past by the big "C" disease. (Not that I think it will happen to me, I don't have the same lifestyle that my dad or the others had). I will be regularly getting health checks I've never had before.

I am already experiencing some alarmingly fast changes as of a few months ago.... deteriorating tendinosis in my achilles tendons, and waaaaaay less stamina or muscle endurance than even last year (bloodwork says I'm slightly anemic now so go figure) and my pituitary gland is working hard to keep my thyroid even. Theoretically it can do that for years before anything bad happens, so I can't worry about it unless something changes. Oh and there are the vericose veins... freaking ugly and painful things THOSE are! (but I only have one so far).

It's not all doom and gloom though.

I'm happy to say my wrinkles are from smiling and whistling mostly... and I can live with that (most of the time), and I haven't experienced any scary weight gain like some of my family has.

So I'm not feeling great physically compared to my 30 year old self, but I think I feel pretty good for a 40 year old honestly.

No major illnesses to fight, no surgeries, no divorce.

My country is at peace, my kids are healthy, my marriage is healthy and my finances are under control.

Happy Birthday to me!
