Hubby of many talents
There are usually lots of things in the garage that I have nothing to do with.... 1/2 built engines, motorcycles in various states of assembly and that sort of thing.
But T's fixing talent is NOT limited to automobiles. He is also called on regularly to fix boats, compressors, hydraulic things and strange mechanical devices that are a complete mystery to me.... believe me when I say there are things that T is called on to fix and refurbish that look like they came off a Klingon Warship! Bizzarre and dirty devices.
Recently T and I were sitting around enjoying an episode of "Dirty Jobs" on Discovery, and we were interupted by a phone call. It was the lady that catered our 10th wedding anniversary bash! (We haven't heard from her in about a year.)
She was very serious, "There is a movie shoot going on downtown that I am catering, the motorcycle that the main character rides won't run, can you come on-set and fix it?"
So T asks a few questions, packs up his tool kit and says "I guess I am going to fix a movie bike...." and away he goes. A few hours later he comes back with a hideous old bike in the back of the truck and continues tinkering into the night. Needless to say he faound the problem and had the thing chugging away for the next shoot. They were ecstatic! (The movie is a B rate horror flick called "the Scourge" in case you were wondering). I guess they had hired the motorcycle shop downtown (Harley) to work on it and $600 later it still wouldn't run, so they had been PUSHING it into the scene, filming it rolling, then dragging it back and doing it all over again with the bike in neutral (engine off!)!!!! T was the set hero! Paid in cash, it was an adventure and he said a film set is a bizzarre place, very interesting.
Well we have a different mechanical adventure in the garage right now. An amphibious vehicle that was designed and produced in Canada called an "Aargo" They came in 6 and 8 wheeled varieties, and have no steering wheels! 8 wheel drive controlled by levers (like a bobcat-digger) its a nifty device and T gets to "test drive" it all over the place!

How does he get to fix such unusual things? Well one clue is when he called to get parts for the engine in the Aargo at the biggest dirtbike shop on the Island they said "we don't sell parts for those, we service only motorcycles"
That guy was a retard.
That place also sells Quad/ATVs and a funny little farm machine called a Rhino, (which shares an engine with the Aargo) and if they don't service what they sell they are really very stupid. The idiot probably just didn't want to deal with something unusual. And that is a common reaction! Whenever someone has something unusual, they can't take it to their local shop, and word got around pretty quick that T isn't afraid of fixing anything! From the old air-cooled VW Bugs, to bizzarre hydraulic pumps from Russia, to vintage 2-stroke dirtbikes, brand new luxury boats (his boss trusts no one else to touch it) and now 8 wheeled amphibious toys!
I am interested to see what comes into the garage next!!!!!

Best Mary Kay party EVER!
Last night I left the comfort of a good book and a cozy couch at 7pm to go to a Mary Kay party... don't laugh, the lady hosting is someone I classify as a "friend" in this neighbourhood, and the Mary Kay rep is a mom to one of Cammy's classmates.
Well, if it wasn't the most fun I have EVER had at a Mary Kay thing!
We start off with appetizers and she pours us each a drink. When all the expected ladies arrive (I have seen them all up at the school and our kids play together) she starts off the thing with "MaryKay ladies don't wear jeans to do their presentations" (She was wearing tight party jeans). " And we aren't supposed to drink at these things -- hey Kristy top me up here - *hic*"
"AND we never, ever, ever swear..... now where the f#*%! did I leave that presentation board. And now that we know what I think of these rules..... let's get started on getting you excellent skin!"
Now this lady is very young for her age, but since she is REALLY 40, and acts 25 we are all okay with it. She is lovely, bubbly and an optomistic pretty little thing.
So we are busy lathering, scrubbing, toning and moisturizing our faces, hands and arms and having a great time laughing, drinking and snacking. The hostess had the mood perfect with candles burning everwhere and girl-power music in the background. There was not a man or child in sight so we were all open and relaxed verbally, oh it was nice!!!!
By the time our actual make-up was on I was seriously drunk. But that was OKAY because I looked FABULOUS.
LOL
Then, next thing I know it's midnight and the hostess has called us a cab. I guess she wanted us to take our hot, exfoliated new looks on the road! And we all piled in and checked out the Nanaimo night scene. None of us are sober, and none of us feel like its inappropriate. The first place was very accomodating, a nice range of ages in there, loud music, no cover charge and the door man even opened the door for us to come in! Once we were bored of that and had had another drink each, we staggered on down to the "other end" of Commercial street..... not too far, but a good walk anyways.... we found a line-up at the other bar, and young people waiting to get in at 1AM no less! I told the hostess I hate lines after about 5 minutes, so she turns and says "There's a cab, get in it then!" So me and another gal left the party-hardies in line and cabbed home, laughing all the way.
We pull into her driveway (thats where my car is, and I had to make sure it was all locked up before walking home) and not 30 seconds later another cab pulls up and the other girls pile out. Apparently the bouncer said they weren't getting in and they should go home. The hostess took offence, and so they REALLY weren't getting in after that!
I went in the house with them and we gabbed for 2 more hours.... effectively not drunk anymore I drove my car down the hill home and was upstairs by 3:10 AM.
7PM - 3AM that was one heck of a Mary Kay party!
I had drank an entire bottle of Merlot myself plus a beer. Oh my. I had the good sense to drink orange juice, 2 glasses of water and some vitamin C before bed, so my hangover was a merciful 2 out of 10 this morning. A nice bunch of gals all feeling a little too home-bound and needing to be silly.

A little bend in the narrow path

T called me from work at 7:30. Someone had rifled through the truck (again). He came outside and the interior cab light was on, the door was open and everything from the glovebox was all over the seat. Though the stereo faceplate was off, they didn't actually take it this time.
HOW ANNOYING!
No harm done (T thinks he may have disturbed them when he got up), but really, its so invasive. Now I am all paranoid about: who may be mucking about on my property; my bank card (Tai's bad experience); using my credit cards (the Winner's thing); letting the kids walk home from school (so many creeps out there!); global warming; humanity's future in general.
Now at the risk of sounding way too old...... WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO?

I can't help it! I think we all worry about the future, the quality of our lives and our "things"?One bit of truly hopeful new though, apparently a Canadian breakthrough offers hope on autism, Hooray! This once rare disability has been getting more an more common. According to Statistics Canada, about 1 in 450 Canadians in 2003 but now its more like 1 in 147 school age kids. Autism's causes have stumped experts. Many suspect environmental triggers - prenatal hormones, toxins, food allergies and infections. ... now Canadian Research has found at least 2 genes that may contribute. AND they have found NEW mutations that are connected.... oh boy, mutations in our genes. I don't know about you, but having seen and interacted with autistic children of varying intensities, I was starting to get very frightened of what my old age might be like with such a HUGE portion of the population suffering with such a dizzying array of issues, social deficits being its hallmark, impaired language, communication and the ability to interact with others..... they need constant support even as tiny children. Unfortunately kids afflicted with this impairment don't out grow it. What is the world to be like full of Socially Impaired Adults?
--- I know, most days it seems like that's already happening --
I am concerned though as to the state of humanity, and our fragile Earth, for my old age, and for my children's future. sigh.... big thoughts for early on a Wednesday.

It seems, we are tiny and insignificant, but we can't let that stop us from doing the right thing! Every drop has it's place in a rainstorm, if there were no raindrops, there would be no rain!
We can only try to not get washed away by the little drops -- the cold, wet spots that hit us in the face and threaten to wash us off as we walk our own narrow path, our precarious foothold on life as we know it. The rain makes the Earth green, whether we get washed away today or not.

Aimless Wanderings
Not thinking about too much specific to write here, so lets see where it goes.
*
The power went out yesterday resulting in 2 hours of involuntary time off. The weather was lovely, but it was terribly inconvenient and resulted in me having to make the time up on the computer later. I did finish reading a book that I had bought over a year ago. It wasn't worth mentioning here.... too bad.
*
I did make a very yummy dinner on the BBQ though! Baby potatoes, mixed steamed vegetables (spinach, asperagus, snow peas, red peppers and brocoli) and salmon fillet covered in something NEW! This is what made the dinner yummy ~~ 4 roasted garlic cloves mashed into 3 TBS maple syrup + 3TBS Balsamic vinegar + fresh rosemary + pepper, salt + 1/4 C mayonaise. MMMMMM.... sweet, tangy and garlicy! I will be making that sauce again, I guarantee it.
*
I had a good lunch meeting, it is a new networking group, small and by invitation only called "MasterMinds". Lively bunch, very "business-success-through-personal-success" oriented which is a refreshing change from the usual "sell-sell-sell" attitude at most of these sorts of things. I feel like these people all are doing what they love, and are happy to share their success experiences!
*
I am so sick of coughing, I try not to breathe too suddenly to prevent fits. ick. Its not as bad as it was, but it shows no sign of ending soon.
*
I bought 3 movies today. It is a weakness, but I like the nonsense movies best of all! Todays purchase "Spaceballs", "Ruthless People" and the best of them "Sliding Doors".
*
damn I feel lazy today! I wanted to do some laundry and get the kitchen presentable, as well as do some graphics work.
So far I have done a wee $50 ad, and avoided all other jobs by going grocery shopping and hanging out at the video store.
Bad me!!!!!
*
oh I guess now that I have admitted I am being lazy, I had better do some work. And since I'd rather keep sitting here than go up and sort the laundry, I guess it will be graphics work!

I'm hot stuff
I am dreadfully sick -- or at least I was the day before yesterday. I seem to be crawling out the other side of it now. I hope. I pray.
My fever was dreadfully high Wednesday, I had to call a neighbour to take the kids to and from school, and asked Tim to come home early. The tylenol didn't barely dent it, I took my temperature with an ear thermometer (not the most accurate things) and I am surprised I wasn't hallucinating because it registered 105.4 degrees in one ear and 104.7 degrees in the other. Really I think I should have brain damage (don't say a THING!).
So the fever kicked the crap out of me , but the worst part is the burning sensation in my chest and the deep painful cough and the headache and the limp achy muscles..... oh its a bad one
Now, days later the fever is down to a low grade fever. But my stomache is so sore from the constant coughing and my ears are aching from the pressure, oh my it is hanging on.
I know some people that have deveolped sinusitus, bronchitus and even pneumonia as complications from this particularly evil bug.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T CATCH THIS ONE!!!!

funny list
I admit it, I stole this list from http://www.eclecticraven.com
I find her site lovely to look and and she lives in a cabin and takes pictures of cemeteries!
This is just too funny to pass up! The Washington Post's Style Invitational once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition. Here are 2005 winners.
Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.
Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period.
Sarchasm (n): The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.
Inoculatte (v): To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.
Hipatitis (n): Terminal coolness.
Osteopornosis (n): A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)
Karmageddon (n): It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer.
Glibido (v): All talk and no action.
Dopeller effect (n): The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.
Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.
Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a grub in the fruit you're eating.
And the pick of the literature:
Ignoranus (n): A person who's both stupid and an asshole.
I Almost peed myself I laughed so hard!!!!

Pink has a point here. Though I have never been much of a lemming, it is still a great theme song!

And this video just is plain old a great time! Click on one of the video formats and watch this normally creepy actor strut his stuff! I have to dance when I see this one.

You Asked For It!
Tai, you tagged me, so here we go:
Weird things about me:
1) I have chilblains (perniosis) on my toes. Eat your heart out Kim, my toes are freakier! In short, my toes are super sensitive to pressure, always cold and purple, (if they are hot, they are painfully swollen and itchy) and to top it off, they get hideous with dry CHUNKS falling off. (grossed out enough yet?) not just skin, but frostbitten-looking chunks. An affliction I have had since hitting my teens -- caused by poor circulation and abnormal capillary reactions to heat and cold. Thank goodness its not on my face, thats all I have to say about that!
2) I occassionally suffer from Hypnagogic hallucinations (especially when really tired) a sometimes frightening dream-like state that combines the REAL environment with illusions (which seem very real) between waking and sleeping -- it usually includes visual, auditory, and even touchable sensations! Don't worry, its not all the time folks, just when I'm really over-tired, stressed and drifting off to sleep. So things like massive swarms of spiders (T has almost been beaten in his sleep!) Little blue robots, earthquakes and home-intruders have visited my room and I have interacted with them. Sitting up, calling out -- really interacting! T is used to them now, and doesn't even bat an eye.
3) Four leaf clovers "call" to me. Not little green voices or anything, they just make themselves very obvious, I see patterns easily, and the 4 leaf looks different from the 3 leaf variety. As a result, I literally have founds hundreds of the lovely anomolies, including several dozen 5 leafers, a few 6 leafers, and even a couple 7 leaf clovers.
4) I eat chocolate in the shower. (Only the good stuff!) As the shower warms up, I climb out of my clothes, and go get my secret stash, then I place the morsel on the shower glass frame. I climb in, wet my hair, later up with shampoo, then get the chocolate and let it melt in my mouth as I get my hair all nice and clean! Its a pampering ritual that I really enjoy.
5) That having been said.... it reminds me of another thing about me. I dislike getting wet. Once I am wet I am fine, but the thought of getting wet is very unpleasant for me! So showering only happens because it has to really. Swimming isn't something I particularly look forward to, and baths (while great in theory) don't happen -- my crumby little tub and not having any "me" time doesn't help either.
6) I still have some toys from when I was a kid. AND I still pull them out and play with them from time to time. Like Yoda who can accompany me out to dinner from time to time. I revel in the feeling it gives me to rekindle to old playtime. For a few moments I can forget about my adult responsibilities!
7) Seeing something beautiful makes me cry. I get so passionate about what I see that I can't help it! My heart swells with gratitude! I am thankful to be there, to be able to see, to have the life that I have to appreciate it so fully! I marvel in the awe inspiring sights and weep with sheer JOY!!!!! It can happen very quickly and without warning -- cresting a hill on my way to a meeting and seeing the winter sun glistening off the coastal mountains so many miles away; the delicate architecture of a dew covered web; the joyful genuine dimples of my son laughing with his dad; the amazing depth of colour and texure in a piece of wood; the frost patterns on my windsheild as I warm the car in the morning; the swirls in my coffee as I put in the cream... there is beauty in these patterns, colours, structures that never ceases to AMAZE and inspire me. --------- There was a time that this gift was gone (when I was depressed) and I mourned the loss and couldn't force myself to see the beauty, it was a bad time, and I am so glad its over ---------
8) I love grocery shopping. (Hate clothes shopping, but LOVE grocery shopping). All the culinary possibilities make me very happy! A full pantry is my idea of success, no matter how out of control the world seems, when my pantry is full I know we live in a blessed country and will be okay.
One more:
9) Up until probably my late teens I always dreamt I was a male. I never dreamt about real life (that I can remember), I am still kind of amazed that I am female sometimes, but the good news is that I really like being who I am so it doesn't matter -- male or female. I am a vivid dreamer... a whole other universe not bound by time, gender, species nor the rules of physics. I feel terribly sorry for people that don't remember their dreams, or even worse, remember them and they are mundane copies of their real lives.
oh there is probably more to add to this list, but its exhausting thinking about it!
