Thanks Tai, Nish, Vanne for the very nice visit!
Though I have no regrets about any of our visits, they all had high points that are forever on my favourite reasons for being alive list..... I really think this last one was the best yet!
No barfing (from flu, booze nor beloved "parasite") No tears except from laughing, no bumping into people we'd rather not see, not one leering fellow hanging from a car, no overpriced cover charges, no runny mousse, or questionable food (except maybe my waffle) and NO SORE FEET!!!!!
Seeing where Nisha's lives was worth the drive. Vanne is a fine co-pilot and has the best travel stories for the ferry rides!!!!!! And it goes without saying, Tai is a MARVELLOUS cook and sexy hostess! The conversation was stimulating (even if I was slurring a bit near the end).... the meal lingering over several scrumptuous dishes that I am still drooling everywhere just thinking about them -- I was SAVOURING them, NOT dawdling by the way! How did I ever manage to get 3 brilliant, creative, beautiful, WHOLE best friends?!?!?!
Each of you so wonderful and so genuine and different. To any outsiders we would have very little in common, but here we are steadfast, infinitely patient with one another. You are my sisters, but you know, better than sisters too!
24 days of rain, solid and unrelenting..... suddenly breaks!!!! 2 perfectly timed days of sun and mild weather (even by Vancouver standards) It's January for goodness sakes! Mix that in with light traffic, 2 good ferry rides, interesting food and wig shopping, great parking spots and of course the amazing company and it had to have been one of the more perfect weekends of my adult life.
AND as you may wonder because of past excursions....
Happily T had a fine time without me and even got the boys out to the pool and dirtbiking! Not at the same time though. He was in a fine, relaxed and cuddly mood when I got home.... I'll have to find out how the planets were aligned for that one..... I bet Polaris had something to do with it!
Today we are back to rain, and I think the heavens are trying to make up for lost time..... yikes! Rivers are running down the streets around here. But I have the MEMORY of the sun and my friends!
Always nesting, my friends keep me young, my kids keep me on my toes, and my husband is my rock! Nature photography, parenting and a growing talent for decluttering are my focus here... Welcome!

Weather
It's Sunny!
For a brief shining moment I see the sun, even though the weatherman said solid rain for the next few days, the storm was very wicked last night, so I guess it blew itself out for a bit.... very, very nice.
Speaking of storms.....
I watched "The Day After Tommorrow" last night. Other than the very cheesy scenarios and horribly rendered computer generated wolves that escaped from the zoo, and subzero criogenic temperatures "chasing" the heros down the hall..... it was thought provoking. They claim that's all they wanted -- for the audience to leave with a thought or two about how we impact our global system. I remember seeing a special a while back, aparently it was a zero impact production for green house emissions.... in other words they planted a whole whack of trees to counteract the green house gasses that they calculated were emmitted as a result of the production of the film..... though I doubt they took into account all the cars that were driven to the theatres and video stores too!
Wow, I am sure there are tonnes of spelling errors in this blog entry, but I try!

I have a sickness
I can admit it, I have a problem. A compulsion that is ingrained in me (thanks to my mommy) as much as breathing. I am always looking for a deal. THE deal.
Conflicting feelings are always raging in me..... my home is cluttered, I want to purge! BUT I need to buy the good deals, I neeeeed them! Oh baby, how I love the hunt!
Especially kids books! Their bookshelves are bursting at the seams and yet I come home with armloads everytime I am at a thrift store. At 10-50 cents each, how can I resist their colourfully illustrated pages? They are the main reason my children's rooms are always messy looking. There is simple NOT enough storage space for all the readers, reference and stories in their shelves. I think I need to get a shelving unit for the family room or something....
There are other things too. I can't even go near where "storage solutions" are. I love boxes, drawers and cubbies. IKEA gives me an overload, I really, truly almost hyperventilate in that section.
Now I have always been something of a packrat, kids seem to have made it worse, and boys are a joy! Lego can always be added to, and there are never enough HotWheels in one collection! Curse the dreaded "quarter bin" at the local thrift store! With about a 1/2 hour of digging through Happy Meal toys and mismatched plastic things, I can usually leave with at least a dozen REAL Hot Wheels for the bargain of 1/8th the price of new! Always appreciated by my little boys. (Hey and I like them too! Small, cool, no batteries, and keeps them busy).
Sigh.... there are more, but that is enough to confess for one day. I am happy to report I don't seem to need to go into debt with any of these purchases. BUT it all adds to the chaos of our family home.
So do I build more shelves or do I purge and recycle the books? I am not sure and I am not going to think about it too much right now.

off on a tangent
aha!
Does anyone remember what a tangent is, I wonder?
I got my wish! New Year's Eve was very mellow. I had a huge table of tidbits and finger foods and T's mom and dad each took turns visiting. T's brother had made plans already so he wasn't even there making noise.
T fell asleep on the couch bright and early and C flamed out in his wee PJ's at around 10 or so. But S and I both made it to midnight! We woke up T and banged on pots and pans and watched the neighbourhood fireworks for a little while. Then we were all tucked in by 12:20am.....
Sigh, it was very nice.
So far 2006 has been kind of boring. RAIN and wind then a lovely day yesterday when we all went out as a family exploring the muddy trails near our home, one of my favourite things. The smell of wet and rotting maple leaves, everything still really drenched and the birds getting startled at the sudden human presence. It was very peaceful and I felt like an ancient person trudging along closely taking inventory on the flora and fauna. It made me feel like when I used to explore for hours on end with Kim in the wooded space behind her home, my mind full of wonder at the plants especialy and what we could "make" with them. I think I want to know more about our native plants actually. I am not sure who to ask or how to get started though.....
Then more miserable weather today. I love rain and the wind makes it more interesting, but there are 2 side effects. It's so DARK all day and my hubby is as miserable as the sky when its rainy. Doesn't matter if I remind him that it was really nice yesterday, he just figures its never going to stop even if it's barely started. Boohoo.
How did a rain-lover like me get hooked up with a seasonal depression sufferer like him anyway?
I was talking to Tai about what I wanted from life as I approached adulthood. I can easily sum it up into one word, I really wanted to be "content". That's exactly what I have got too. Punctuated by joy, happiness, depression, rage, accomplishments and the occassional failure, but all-in-all I have to say my life fills me with content.
There is room for improvement in 2006, but I am not hoping for any drastic change. Heaven forbid if I upset my content little existance.
